Vigan: The Heritage City
5 day tour. 1,376km worth of photos. 5 days of blue skies. The experience, priceless! That’s how my 2012 photo tour ends. Ilocos sealed it with a big bang!
After working overnight on my usual cubicle somewhere in Makati, I finally came rushing to my car and headed for another adventure. I’m excited. It’s been a while since I felt this itch to travel and shoot. With no sleep nor breakfast at my disposal, a 400+ km of driving, BRING IT ON! I whisper… Driving for long hours may be a pain in the ass to some but for me, it’s like a personal tranquilizer. A profound feeling inside my own little space.
After an 8-hour drive from Manila, Vigan City once again. I’ve been here several times but for some reason, this tour made me feel that I’m new to the place. There were old familiar sights, it’s like seeing old friends after quite some time.
The first thing you have to do when in Vigan City is have a walk in Calle Crisologo. It’s one of the famous streets in the country. People flock to this street for the Heritage ambiance.
The whole street is full of old houses left and right. As you walk along, local vendors are there for souvenirs.
One thing that makes the place “heritage” are the Kalesa roaming around. For a fee, you can ride it and explore the city of Vigan or any other points of interest nearby.
The best time to visit Calle Crisologo is at dusk or in the evening. Warm lights makes the ambiance so relaxing.
While in Vigan City, you may visit the following:
Try the following food:
Vigan Longanisa with Ilocos Vinegar
Should I recommend the place? Absolutely. There’s a lot of things to see here and food to try that will keep your overnight stay preoccupied.
I’ll be back for sure.
